Exorbitant legal costs are yet another indictment of Irish Water – Brian Stanley TD
The Sinn Féin spokesperson on the Environment, Brian Stanley TD, has claimed the revelation of the amount of money spent by Irish Water on legal fees is yet another indictment of the company.
Teachta Stanley was responding to a report that the company has spent over €5 million for various legal services to date.
“Hardly a week goes by without another story which highlights the enormous waste of taxpayer’s money by Irish Water. The huge legal bill must be added to the €85 million spent on consultants, and the costs of running a call centre which it is almost impossible to contact, not to mention bonus payments to top executives.
“As an illustration of that waste, I would point out that in the past four years just over €160 million has been spent on mains rehabilitation and addressing the enormous waste of water through leaks. Surely the money being frittered away on well-connected consultants and legal firms might be better spent in addressing that problem.”
