Dáil debate on Palestinian statehood welcome- Lynn Boylan MEP

8 December, 2014 - by Senator Lynn Boylan

Dublin Sinn Féin MEP Lynn Boylan MEP has welcomed the news that Sinn Féin will use its Private Members time this week to table a motion calling on the government to officially recognise the state of Palestine.

Speaking today Ms Boylan said:

“This government must stop procrastinating and should make moves to recognise a Palestinian state, just like the Seanad did back in October and like many other European states have including France just last week.

Sinn Féin will call on the government to officially recognise the State of Palestine on the basis of the 1967 borders as established in UN resolutions.

This month in Strasbourg GUE/NGL MEPs will call on the European Parliament to stand with the 135 countries that already recognise the state of Palestine when a plenary vote on recognising Palestine takes place.

The government should support this motion. It would send an important message of support to the struggle of the Palestinian people against occupation and would be an important step towards a just and peaceful two-state solution."
