Maskey seeks meeting with Belfast health trust chief

6 January, 2015 - by Paul Maskey

Sinn Féin MP Paul Maskey has said Sinn Féin have requested a meeting with the new Chief Executive of Belfast Health Trust Dr Michael McBride to discuss improving health provision in the area.

Mr Maskey said;

“I welcomed the appointment of Dr Michael McBride as Chief Executive of Belfast Health Trust but he faces a major task in improving heath provision for the city and district.

“One of the issues I will be raising as a priority is Accident & Emergency provision in Belfast and at the Royal Hospital in particular.

“In the past few weeks we have again seen the department being swamped to a point where people were left on trolleys for over 12 hours. This is unacceptable.

“Despite the fact that major incidents have been declared at the department we saw again at the weekend a spike in the time taken for patients to be seen.

“We will be reinforcing the need to address the problem at the Royal A&E once and for all so that people will not have to endure long waits on trolleys.

“Hopefully Dr McBride can take a fresh approach and look at other options such as opening up the City Hospital A&E in times of crisis to alleviate pressures on the Royal.”
