Pádraig Maclochlainn TD writes to Minister for Justice to convey concern regarding Flood/Mahon Tribunals
Sinn Féin Justice Spokesperson Pádraig MacLochlainn TD has written to the Minister for Justice Frances Fitzgerald to convey his concern about the unfolding implications of the Supreme Court decision from July 2014 that important material was wrongly withheld by the Flood/ Mahon Tribunal team in relation to the Tribunal's key witness, James Gogarty.
Deputy MacLochlainn said;
“All adverse findings against former Assistant Dublin City Manager, George Redmond have now been reversed and adverse findings against others including former Minister Ray Burke may follow.
“Further, the Tribunal and in turn the tax payer will now have to foot the legal bill of these witnesses/ accused amounting to millions of euro.
“All of this has the potential to seriously undermine public confidence in the Tribunal system.
“I have written to ask Minister Fitzgerald exactly how is the Tribunal accountable to the Irish people for this error with all its resultant reputational and financial consequences?”
