Mayor Warfield welcomes South Dublin support for Moore Street preservation
The Mayor of South Dublin County Council, Fintan Warfield has welcomed
council support for his call on the Minister for Arts, Heritage and Gaeltacht,
Heather Humphreys to recognise and act on her responsibility as Heritage
Minister to protect and preserve the historic Moore Street area of Dublin City.
Speaking following a South Dublin County Council meeting, Mayor Fintan Warfield said;
“Moore Street is steeped in history.
“I believe and Sinn Féin believe that the street should be protected, both for its 1916 connection and for the families and individuals who have traded there for generations.
“The motion passed seeks to protect a key battlefield site from Easter Week 1916 as time runs out in the approach to the centenary year.
“Although this issue lands outside of our remit here in South Dublin, I welcome the opportunity to bring the discussion forward, to consider the cultural heritage at the heart of our city, and the potential benefit that heritage can bring to the wider Dublin area and indeed the island as a whole.
“This issue requires vision and the motion passed seeks to protect of the lanes of history.
“Heather Humphreys TD must now recognise and act on her responsibility as Heritage Minister to protect and preserve the historic Moore Street area of Dublin City".
