“Disappointed but not surprised with Stena Line decision for Dún Laoghaire”- Cllr Shane O’Brien
Commenting on the announcement that Stena Line has confirmed it will end its seasonal passenger service from Dún Laoghaire to Holyhead, Sinn Féin County Councillor for Dún Laoghaire, Shane O'Brien said:
“As a public representative for Dún Laoghaire, I am very disappointed but not surprised that Stena Line has confirmed that it will no longer operate the HSS between Dún Laoghaire and Holyhead. Over the past number of years the town has witnessed a downgrading of Stena services from the harbour itself. A ferry service has operated on this route for more than 170 years. The withdrawal of this service marks the end of an era and represents a significant blow to Dún Laoghaire Town.
Our county town has a long and distinguished relationship with the sea through our harbour and its ports. Now more than ever all stake-holders within the town must work together to ensure this relationship can be repaired and rebuilt over the coming months and years"
