Mortgage-to-Rent scheme failing families in Fingal- Cllr Paul Donnelly
Fingal Sinn Féin councillor and party election candidate for the Dublin West constituency Paul Donnelly has criticised the Government over the National Mortgage-to-Rent Scheme after it was revealed that only two properties in Fingal have been successfully purchased through the initiative since it first launched back in 2012.
The figures were revealed following a Parliamentary Question submitted by Sinn Féin Finance Spokesperson Deputy Doherty to the Minister for the Environment Alan Kelly.
Speaking about the figures today Cllr Donnelly said:
“The figures demonstrate that the government has failed to get a handle on the mortgage arrears crisis. When it launched the Mortgage-to Rent Scheme in June 2012 it was heralded as a scheme that would help low income families in mortgage arrears to stay in their homes. As evidenced in the figures provided this doesn’t appear to be the case.”
