Mortgage-to-rent scheme uptake poor in South County Dublin- Cllr Cathal King

10 February, 2015 - by Cathal King

Sinn Féin councillor for South Dublin and party group leader on the council Cathal King has expressed concern over the progress and the future of the government’s national Mortgage-to-Rent Scheme after it was revealed that only four properties in South County Dublin have been successfully purchased through the initiative since it first launched back in 2012.

The figures were revealed following a Parliamentary Question submitted by Sinn Féin Finance spokesperson Deputy Pearse Doherty to the Minister for the Environment Alan Kelly.

Speaking about the figures today Cllr King said:

“This scheme was launched to help struggling families to stay in their homes and these shockingly low figures demonstrate that this government’s Mortgage-to-Rent scheme is fatally flawed and needs to be reformed in order to meet its original aims. The fact that only four families have benefitted from this scheme in South Dublin illustrate that little is being done to help people to stay in their homes.”
