Broadband blackspots should be prioritised for investment - Colreavy

12 February, 2015 - by Michael Colreavy TD

Michael Colreavy, Sinn Féin TD and spokesperson on Communications, Energy and Natural Resources has called for internet blackspots to be prioritised in mapping process.

Speaking on the issue, Deputy Colreavy said:

“Sinn Féin representatives from around the country have made representations to the Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources as part of the broadband mapping programme initiated last year.”

“Public consultation is essential in determining what areas are most in need of government intervention.”

“The Minister should strongly consider a means of developing a forum where he can receive communication from the public on the level of their broadband access.”

“It is essential that areas that have the poorest level of broadband coverage receive priority in the roll out of high speed broadband throughout the country.”

“The publication of the broadband map on where the state must intervene is a positive step.”

“Quality, high speed, broadband is essential for almost every facet of modern life.”

“In order to develop a sustainable economy, especially in rural areas, access to high speed broadband is needed.”

“The Minister should focus his attention on areas with the poorest broadband coverage for priority attention and investment.”
