Sinn Féin selection convention in Cork South Central ends in draw
The Sinn Féin convention to selection the party candidate to contest the general election in Cork South Central ended in a draw.
The two candidates, Cllr Chris O'Leary and Cllr Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire received the exact same number of votes from the party membership in the constituency.
The selection & convention process will now be re-run in accordance with party rules.
A spokesperson for Sinn Féin said;
"The convention today ended in a draw. Both candidates have agreed to re-run the process."
A date will be set in consultation with the party's election department.
"It will take place at a date after the Ard Fhéis to allow candidates the appropriate time to prepare.
"The party is lucky to have two fantastic public representatives seeking the nomination. It was clearly a very difficult choice to make for all the members today."
