Criminals behind South Armagh murder bid must be brought to justice – McGuinness
Sinn Féin MLA Martin McGuinness said today the criminals behind yesterday’s bomb attack, which left South Armagh man, Frank McCabe, seriously injured in a Belfast hospital, need to be brought to justice.
He said the attack followed a campaign of intimidation in the South Armagh area against local people who have taken huge personal risks advocating accountable policing with the community.
Martin McGuinness said:
“I condemn the bomb attack on Frank McCabe Jnr which has left him seriously injured in hospital and my thoughts are with him and his family.
“This bomb attack was carried out by an organised criminal gang in the North Louth/South Armagh area.
“This was attempted murder and was an attack on the peace process and an attempt to intimidate the entire community of South Armagh and North Louth.
“The family targeted are among a number of people who were recently told by police they were under threat from a criminal gang which has been masquerading as Republicans.
“My party colleagues in South Armagh and North Louth have been calling on the Gardaí and the PSNI to do more to tackle organised criminals in this area, including those who murdered Garda Aidan Donohoe two years ago and those involved in fuel laundering and other rackets.
“Yesterday’s attack has followed a campaign of intimidation in the South Armagh area against people in the community who have taken huge personal risks advocating accountable policing with the community.
“The criminals who carried out this attack must be brought to justice and the PSNI and the Gardaí must do all in their power to tackle the scourge of organised crime.” ENDS/CRÍOCH
