Minister committed to tackling rural poverty
Sinn Féin Agriculture spokesperson Oliver McMullan has said that the news that Agricultural Minister Michelle O’Neill has spent over £16m in tackling rural poverty and social inclusion indicates her intention to bring equality into rural areas.
Mr McMullan said,
“The Minister revealed during an Assembly debate that her Department has ploughed over £16m into tackling rural poverty and bringing about social inclusion to rural communities.
‘Not only has the Minister shown a commitment by funding many projects but she has also worked in partnership with other Departments to bring another £12m to fund projects that are geared to tackle poverty.
“Delivering services such as mains water and access to high speed broadband as well as health and education programmes are just some of the projects that are being implemented through this funding.
“I welcome the commitment by the Minister to tackle poverty and bring equality to rural areas and look forward to working with her in developing other strategies to bring this about.”
