Sinn Fein will take no lectures from Ford’s ‘Austerity’ party

14 March, 2015

Sinn Féin MLA Máirtín Ó Muilleoir said his party will take no lectures from an Alliance party which has nothing to offer only cuts to public services, to welfare protections and increased charges on the poor.

Máirtín Ó Muilleoir was responding to comments today by Alliance leader David Ford.

 Mr Ó Muilleoir said,

“Sinn Féin won’t be lectured by David Ford’s ‘Austerity’ party on our stance of defending children with disabilities, adults with severe disabilities, the long-term sick and large families.

“The Alliance party has nothing to offer the people of the north other than water charges, prescription charges, cuts to public services and welfare safeguards.

“This is the party which wants to take parental choice out of education and impose its view on how children will be educated.

“They have slavishly followed the line of their sister party the Liberal Democrats who with the Tories have made the most savage cuts to the welfare state since the 1930s.

“He needs to explain why he is not prepared to stand up for people with disabilities and those most in need.

“Sinn Fein will continue to oppose Tory welfare cuts and campaign for an end to the British government’s assault on the block grant.”
