Sinn Féin seeks to lead anti-austerity Government – Adams
Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams TD has accused Minister for Communications Alex White of taking voters for fools ahead of the General Election.
This follows remarks by Minister White that Sinn Féin was “campaigning for opposition”.
Gerry Adams said:
“Alex White is understandably concerned that the Labour Party is facing a backlash in the next election for its role on this very bad Government.
“He has reiterated Labour's intention of once again propping up another Fine Gael-led Government with all the negative consequences that means for ordinary working people.
“Sinn Féin is seeking to lead a new, progressive, anti-austerity Government which would rebuild our economy and repair the damage which the present coalition and their Fianna Fáil predecessors have inflicted on our society.
“Minister White is taking voters for fools if he believes a new start is more likely through returning the present coalition.
“Sinn Féin is ready, if it gets the mandate, to govern in the interests of the vast majority of our citizens and that is our focus.
“Rather than attacking Sinn Féin, it would suit Alex White better to acknowledge that the Labour Party has lost its way, betrayed its voters and that it will now pull out if this bad Government and let the people decide the future.”
