A United Ireland is key to ensuring the prosperity of our People – Matt Carthy MEP
Sinn Féin MEP for the Midlands North West Matt Carthy, has today addressed a Sinn Féin Strategic Planning Seminar at the Maldron Hotel in Derry. Carthy outlined the importance of a united Ireland in achieving sustainable economic growth, fairness and prosperity.
Addressing the audience, Carthy said:
“We all know a strong economy is essential to achieving a just, fair and equal society. A just, fair and equal society will support a strong economy. Fairness doesn't necessarily follow economic growth. Fairness delivers economic growth.
“We want to build sustainable economic growth across this island. We intend to do achieve this by tackling inequality, and that means ending partition. We cannot deliver an equal society when partition ensures that Ireland is unequal.
“A United Ireland economy can support higher incomes, living standards and wealth for all the people of Ireland north and south, not just some of the people.
“Partition has not worked in the past, is not working now and will not work in the future. The union with Britain delivers only economic pain and austerity.
“We are working for something bigger than any individual, any party, any campaign –the benefits of which will endure for generations to come.
“One of the biggest advantages of our campaign for Irish Unity is that we put no limits on the abilities of our nation to build prosperity for all of our people.
“Our goal of a United Ireland is achievable, affordable and deliverable. We would all be better off economically, socially and politically in a United Ireland.“If we are to build a better, more democratic, just, equal and prosperous country for our children to inherit, then let me tell you this -Irish Unity is not optional .Irish Unity is essential.”
