Cllr Shane O’Brien slams Dublin Bus proposals

24 July, 2015 - by Shane O'Brien

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown councillor Shane O’ Brien has slammed proposals by Dublin Bus to axe some bus routes and services in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown area.

Speaking after a meeting yesterday with Dublin Bus representatives held to discuss the proposals, Cllr O’Brien said:

“The proposals in their current format are ill-conceived and ill-judged.

“The proposals, which included the cancellation of route 8 and 111 will negatively impact many residents throughout Dún Laoghaire, especially those living in Sallynoggin, Loughlinstown, Dalkey and Killiney Village.

“These plans are made with a view to improving efficiency. However, Dublin Bus confirmed that only five minutes will be saved on journey times by discontinuing the route 7 from Sallynoggin.

“It is my view that Dublin Bus should not be prioritising journey times over public services.

“A lot of elderly people in the area rely on public transport to get around and I would strongly urge Dublin Bus to reconsider these proposals.

“Dublin Bus will hold an information day in Dún Laoghaire shopping centre on Friday the 31st of July between 12 and 4pm. I would encourage anyone with concerns about proposed cuts to bus services in the area to drop down and make their views heard”.
