Families in Fingal face hardship as kids go back to school- Louise O’ Reilly
Sinn Féin candidate for Fingal Louise O’Reilly has responded to the latest Barnardo’s report which finds that the cost of returning to school is rising relative to income.
“The numbers of families suffering deprivation has increased in the 10 years since Barnardo’s started their survey.
Add to this the fact that the actual costs are up from 2014 and we can see that families are being asked to subsidise our supposedly free education system.
Before the end of the last term Sinn Féin in Fingal undertook school gate surveys in Swords and we found that the vast majority of parents are concerned about the cost of their children returning to school.
It is unfair to expect families to shoulder this burden and we are calling on James Reilly, as the Minister for Children to take action on behalf of the children in this constituency.”
“Families in Fingal have borne the brunt of the cuts imposed by Fine Gael and Labour”,
O’Reilly continued, “It is unfair to talk about recovery in the face of increasing deprivation and homelessness”.
