39 beds closed today in Beaumont Hospital yet 39 Patients on Trolleys –Cllr Denise Mitchell

7 October, 2015 - by Denise Mitchell

Beaumont Donaghmede Councillor Denise Mitchell and General election candidate for Dublin Bay North has criticised the department of health after learning that there are 39 beds closed in Beaumont Hospital today and the same number of patients lying on hospital trolleys.

She said,

“We are seeing a sharp increase in the number of patients waiting on trolleys in Beaumont Hospital.  The Minister for Health appears to be blaming everyone but himself for the failures in the hospital.

"The buck stops with him.  It is not acceptable that 39 beds are closed when there is the same number of patients lying on trolleys in the hospital.

"Beds are closed in Hardwick’s Ward, Damien’s Ward, and Richmond ICU.

"I am calling on the Minister to release the necessary funding to open these beds and staff them adequately. We learned last week that the hospital is 143 staff short.  Whatever the Minister is doing here, it isn’t working. "
