Cllr Chris Andrews welcomes passing of the Marriage Bill
Sinn Féin Dublin city councillor Chris Andrews has welcomed today’s passing of the Marriage Bill through both Houses of the Oireachtas.
Cllr. Andrews said: “It’s a momentous day for the more than 1.2million citizens who voted overwhelmingly in favour of marriage equality in May and for the tens of thousands of activists behind the remarkable campaign that saw such a massive endorsement of equality by the Irish people, but particularly and most importantly the thousands of citizens who are now able to marry those they love irrespective of their sexual orientation”.
“I know that people have been eagerly awaiting the passage of the Marriage Bill, particularly in the Dublin Bay South constituency where we recorded the highest yes vote in the State, and it is a most welcome development”.
