Matt Carthy MEP welcomes Report demonstrating economic benefits of Irish Unity.
Sinn Féin MEP for the Midlands North West and party spokesperson on the campaign for Irish Unity, Matt Carthy, has today welcomed an independent study which shows that Irish Unity would be economically beneficial for both jurisdictions on the island.
Matt Carthy said:
“The report, “Modeling Irish unification” is produced by KLC – Consulting for Tomorrow, presents three unification scenarios, each with increasingly positive economic benefits for both the north and south of Ireland.
“In every case, the authors concluded that political and economic unification would likely result in a sizable boost in economic outcomes and incomes in the North and a smaller boost in the South.
“The most aggressive unification scenario estimates a boost in all island GDP of €35.6 billion Euro over eight years.
“In my view, this Report is an important contribution to the debate on Irish Unity and is in line with the view held by Sinn Féin that a united Irish Economy will deliver economic growth and prosperity across this island.
“While opponents often claim that we cannot afford to be united, the simple reality is that we cannot afford to be partitioned. The human price of partition is too high to pay.
“A united Ireland is achievable, affordable and deliverable. We would all be better off economically, socially and politically in a United Ireland.”
