Almost 600 people waiting over one year for appointment at Naas Hospital - Cllr Réada Cronin

10 December, 2015 - by Réada Cronin

Local Sinn Féin Councillor and General Election Kildare North candidate Réada Cronin has hit out at the government after the latest hospital waiting list figures for Naas General Hospital.

Cllr Cronin said:

“Despite all the spin and false promises from this Government, the outpatient waiting list at Naas General Hospital is unacceptable.

“The number of people on the outpatient waiting list for Naas General Hospital now stands at a staggering 5,318 while the inpatient list stands at 48.

“It is clear that our nonchalant Minister for Health is completely out of his depth and will fail to deliver on his modest target of having no patient waiting for treatment longer than 15 months by the end of the year.

“Fine Gael and Labour have run out of ideas and their health policy is in chaos – nurses in emergency departments are on the verge of strike action and Universal Health Insurance has disappeared along with the democratic revolution.

“To add insult to injury this Government has fined hospitals around the state to the tune of €5.8 million for failure to reduce hospital waiting lists in a cynical move to try and make this issue disappear in the run up to an election.

“The only way to resolve this crisis is to provide the necessary resources to hospitals and front-line health workers to provide the highest possible standards of care to patients.

“Sinn Féin showed clearly how a significant investment of €383 million could be used to provide an additional 500 nurses, 250 midwives and 250 consultants in our front-line health services.

“Instead all the people of Kildare got were more false promises and spin from Fine Gael and Labour and an asleep at the wheel Health Minister”.
