McGuinness welcomes all-Ireland taskforce to tackle criminality
Sinn Féin MLA Martin McGuinness has said the newly established all-Ireland task force to tackle criminality sends out a powerful message that communities have rejected crime.
Mr McGuinness said;
"This joint agency task force involving police and justice departments from across the island is a positive step forward in tackling the scourge of criminality.
"Ministers from north and south, the Garda Commissioner and the PSNI Chief Constable came together today to send out a powerful message that the people of Ireland want to see an end to criminality.
"This task force will also target those who are seeking to drag us back to the past to ensure they do not succeed.
"There already is good work going on but the police services and the justice departments must be seen to be acting in a much more cohesive way.
"Through effective co-operation and policing from An Garda Síochána and the PSNI, together with the criminal justice system we can combat criminality across the island and deliver the type of society we all want to see."
