Councillor Denise Mitchell calls for more Gardaí for Coolock ahead of final date of recruitment today
Coolock Sinn Féin Councillor Denise Mitchell and General Election candidate for Dublin Bay North has said she is concerned at the increase in burglaries in the Coolock area and is calling for more Gardaí resources ahead of the final date of recruitment today.
“I have received numerous reports from residents about the increase burglaries in the Coolock area.
Residents are very concerned and crime prevention and safety in the home is certainly one of the big issues I am coming across on the doorsteps ahead of the General election in Dublin Bay North.
Burglary and related offences in Coolock are up in 2015 by approximately 13% and have been rising steadily over the last five years as a result of Government’s decision to starve communities of Garda Resources.”
She further added,
“Citizens have noticed that there is less Gardaí on the streets, call out times take longer and in some situations residents never hear anything back.
There is no doubt like our Hospitals that Garda Stations are suffering from a severe lack of man power.
Today is the final date for recruitment for trainees into An Garda Síochána and I would be hoping that a significant number of new Gardaí will be deployed to Coolock in the coming year to tackle crime in the area.”
