Enda Kenny is returning Ireland to the boom and bust policies of Charlie McCreevy - Pearse Doherty TD

21 January, 2016 - by Pearse Doherty TD

Sinn Féin Finance spokesperson Pearse Doherty has said that “the reckless boom and bust policies which Enda Kenny wants to introduce will mean tax cuts for the wealthiest and a continuation of chaos in health and housing for everyone else.”

Pearse Doherty said:

“Enda Kenny is returning the country to the reckless boom and bust policies of Charlie McCreevy.  He wants to bring in tax cuts for the wealthiest and the continuation of chaos for everyone else.  His plan would see €22 billion taken out of the tax system over a five year period.  This is the equivalent of the total health and education budgets put together.

“It is also a policy that will benefit the wealthiest and our own Taoiseach would pocket over €12,000 as a result of his policy.

“The fact is it is not possible to end the chaos in the health system or to build homes for the more than 100,000 on housing lists, when you follow this type of boom and bust policy.  Enda Kenny’s policies will result in more patients on hospital trolleys and more children growing up in hotel rooms.

“After seven years of austerity and new taxes, our plan for a fair recovery will ease the burden on the average family.  That is why our first priority in government will be to abolish water charges and the property tax and take more than a quarter of a million people out of the USC net.”
