Time for Transdev to bargain in good faith- Cllr Nic Cormaic
Cllr Sorcha Nic Cormaic has called on the management of Transdev to return to the bargaining table with SIPTU representatives.
Nic Cormaic said:
“It is wrong that commuters and their families suffer while no talks take place on the issue. It is wrong that families are being forced to find alternative means of transport, and it is wrong that the public are being deliberately misinformed that the striking workers are being greedy.”
Nic Cormaic continued:
“Luas drivers are not paid for their lunch breaks. Luas drivers incur a far higher rate of emergency stops. Luas drivers have greater exposure to risk. Luas drivers have greater responsibility for the health and safety of pedestrians, motorists as well as their passengers. Luas drivers are expected to carry out temporary repairs to their trams.
“There is a lot more to this than what is being presented. This dispute is about workers’ pay and conditions. Transdev’s slick public relations peddles that same old tired argument, which some news outlets are more than happy to agree with, that this is down to the striking workers greed.”
Nic Cormaic added:
“I have spoken with the striking workers and I offer them my full support. Workers are not paid when they go on strike. They do not take decisions like this lightly. Transdev have refused to bargain with them in good faith, workers have been left with no choice. Sorcha Nic Cormaic and Sinn Féin stands with workers”.
