Luas operator plan for strike breaking is unacceptable -Ellis
Sinn Féin TD Dessie Ellis TD has called for Luas operator Transdev to abandon their strike breaking tactics and negotiate with workers.
Speaking today Deputy Ellis said;
"This dispute has gone on far too long. Transdev must recognise the need to work with unions to resolve the dispute as soon as possible. This is especially important given the upcoming St Patricks Day festivities.
“Employing scab labour to run busses in a blatant attempt to break the strike is unacceptable behaviour reminiscent of the days of 1913. Transdev were gifted a profitable public transport system in the form of the Luas, constructed and subsidised by the public purse. They have since had huge investment in expanding their market by the state.
“Hundreds of millions of euros from the public purse has been spent to build new Luas lines which will boost Transdev profits. This could not be done without the hard work of their employees who deserve to be treated with respect.
“The outgoing Minister for Transport must now do all he can to bring Transdev to the table and reach some sort of working settlement.”
