O’Dowd confirms £2million funding to sustain nurture groups in primary schools
Sinn Féin MLA and Education Minister John O'Dowd has confirmed that £2 million will be allocated to continue support for 30 nurture groups in primary schools.
Mr O'Dowd said;
"I have seen first hand how these groups make a real difference to children who are experiencing social, emotional and behavioural issues.
"This funding will ensure there is no break in the support currently being provided for the many children being supported through these groups.
"Emerging evidence suggests that nurture groups are making a significant and positive difference for young children who are finding it difficult to settle at school.
"They help them to overcome barriers and ensure they are able to engage fully with learning from an early stage of their school life.
"I want to see that support continue. It’s important that children who would otherwise be at high risk of underachievement, can receive the help they deserve to flourish at school and be helped on their journey to reach their full potential.”
