SDLP attempting to con the electorate – Conor Murphy

25 April, 2016 - by Conor Murphy

Sinn Féin’s Conor Murphy today accused the SDLP of attempting to con the electorate with promises they have no intention of keeping.

Mr Murphy said:

“A cursory glance at their manifesto shows the figures do not and cannot add up.

“The SDLP have set aside £225m to cover the cost of a series of promises that would cost around £1 billion.

“The promises made in the SDLP manifesto cannot be delivered with the finance available to the Executive.

“This is an attempt by the SDLP to con the electorate. They want to write cheques that the executive can’t cover, as a pretext to walk away from their responsibilities and walk out of the executive.

“Colum Eastwood needs to make clear how these promises can be funded and come clean with the public whether he will be at the executive table or not.

“For our part Sinn Féin will bring forward a realistic proposals to; grow the economy, invest in public services, support those in most need and progress Irish Unity, reconciliation, equality and inclusion.”
