Concerns of Irish language community should be reflected by the BBC - Ó Donnghaile

9 May, 2016 - by Niall Ó Donnghaile

Sinn Féin Seanadóir Niall Ó Donnghaile has said the views and concerns of the Irish language community should be reflected by the BBC.

Speaking after attending a protest organised by Irish language activists outside the BBC studios in Belfast, Seanadóir Ó Donnghaile said;

"This protest was called after a young Irish speaker who had tried to raise important questions around the language in two debates on BBC was shut down on both occasions.

"Many Irish speakers felt this was an indication of a wider attitude towards Irish from the BBC, which as a public service broadcaster should be representative of the entire community.

"Despite attempts to silence this young Gael, today's protest showed that the Irish language community will make its voice heard and demand equality."
