Finian McGrath bends knee to Fine Gael pressure on water charges - Mitchell

13 May, 2016 - by Denise Mitchell TD

Speaking this evening, Sinn Féin TD for Dublin Bay North Deputy Denise Mitchell said that she is not surprised at the capitulation of Deputy Finian McGrath in the face of Fine Gael pressure to pay his water charges.

Deputy Mitchell said:

“I believe that Deputy McGrath's capitulation to Fine Gael and media pressure to pay his water charges proves he does not have the backbone to stand up for the people of Dublin Bay North.

“In his election leaflets Deputy McGrath made great publicity of the fact that he voted against the Water Services Bill, yet now we see him jumping into bed with those who implemented water charges.

“Deputy McGrath has let down the people of Dublin Bay North who voted for him because of his stance on water charges. I'm sure they find themselves asking the question that if he folds on water charges in the face of pressure from Enda Kenny and Fine Gael, what will he fold on next.

“The constituency of Dublin Bay North needs strong representation, and it looks less and less likely that they’ll get it from Finian McGrath.”
