People of the north inner city will not be intimidated – McDonald
Sinn Féin deputy leader and TD Mary Lou McDonald has congratulated the organisers of a north inner city procession to the Monument, Buckingham St in a display of community solidarity in the face of the recent violence that has affected the area.
Deputy McDonald said that there was no excuse for the fear inflicted on the people of the inner city by criminals who believe they can flout the law and put the lives of innocents in jeopardy.
The Dublin Central TD said:
“I would like to congratulate the organisers of tonight’s procession. It is a timely reminder of the solidarity that the people of inner city have for one another and that they will not be cowed by the individuals who have sown havoc in recent weeks.
“There is no excuse for the fear inflicted on the people of the inner city by criminals who believe they can flout the law and put the lives of innocents in jeopardy.
“The solution to this current situation is not simply to have a surge of Garda numbers in the area, potentially being redeployed from other divisions and leaving gaps in protection in other areas. We must examine the root causes of these criminal activities, such as social deprivation and the much underfunded community projects that can have such a positive impact.
“Rest assured, I will continue to stand with these communities against this violence and Intimidation.”
