McAleer welcomes call for all-Ireland transport planning

25 July, 2016 - by Declan McAleer

Sinn Féin MLA Declan McAleer has welcomed the publication of a major report calling for the preparation of an all-Ireland transport strategy.

Speaking after the launch of a joint IBEC/CBI report, the Sinn Féin infrastructure spokesperson said;

"This report from IBEC and the CBI sets out the need to plan for a prosperous island of ten million people.

"In particular I welcome its call for an all-Ireland transport strategy to ensure that people, goods and services can move freely across the island.

“This report is timely in the wake of the Brexit vote which could see a return of a physical border and trade barriers.

"If we are to ensure joined up thinking between the island's motorways, rail networks, ports and airports for the benefit of our people and economy then the British government needs to respect the vote to Remain.

"The future of Ireland's economy lies in unity and it is important that we prepare on an all-Ireland basis for a modern, efficient infrastructure and transport network.”
