Sale of New Priory apartments should not proceed - Cllr Mac Donncha

5 September, 2016 - by Mícheál Mac Donncha

The sale of the former Priory Hall apartments, now called New Priory, should not proceed, states Sinn Féin Dublin City Councillor Mícheál Mac Donncha.

Cllr Mac Donncha says a report from Council management to tonight's City Council meeting seeking the go-ahead for the sale of the Council's units in the complex should be referred to the Housing Committee and the North Central Area Committee.

Cllr Mac Donncha said:

"The sale of the Council's apartments in New Priory should not proceed. The report presented by management for tonight's meeting is totally inadequate.

"From replies to my questions to management it seems that the sale is designed to refund the Department of the Environment for the refurbishment of the complex. That is not acceptable. Did management seek the Department's approval to retain units? We do not know.

“At the same time, management claims there would be legal implications if the units are retained. What are they? We do not know. Therefore this management proposal should not proceed and the issue should be referred for detailed consideration to the Housing Committee and the North Central Area Committee."
