O'Dowd discusses EU referendum impact with Irish America
Sinn Féin MLA John O'Dowd is currently in American meeting politicians, academics, Irish American groups and others to discuss the impact of the recent EU referendum.
The Sinn Féin national Brexit spokesperson said;
"There is no doubt that the result of the recent EU referendum will have a huge impact right across the island of Ireland.
"I am currently in the United States meeting politicians, academics and leading figures from Irish America to discuss the implications of the vote for Ireland.
"In New York I will meet with the Congressional Friends of Ireland group as well as representatives of the State Department before travelling to Philadelphia to meet with academics from Penn State University.
"There is concern in Irish America about the prospect of the people of the North being dragged out of the EU against their wishes, which were democratically expressed in the referendum.
"The majority of people in the North voted to remain in the EU and that needs to be respected."
