Transport Minister must ensure negotiations reconvene in Dublin Bus dispute – Munster

13 September, 2016 - by Imelda Munster TD

Sinn Féin’s spokesperson on transport, Imelda Munster TD has called on Transport Minister Shane Ross to take action in resolving the Dublin Bus strike.

Speaking today, Deputy Munster said:

“Minister Ross cannot absolve himself of his responsibilities as Minister for Transport. There is an onus on him to come out and publically call for all the stakeholders involved In the Dublin Bus Strike to engage in negotiations in an effort to resolve the dispute.

“Since Dublin Bus workers and the unions first served notice of planned strike action nearly six weeks ago, Dublin Bus management and the department have only met with unions and the workers once for a one hour meeting only. That is simply not good enough - there needs to be real engagement from all the stakeholders involved.

“The Minister cannot continue to stand aloof and ignore the fact that Dublin Bus management and his department are not actively seeking engagement with the unions and the workers in an effort to find a resolution.

“Strike action is always a last resort for workers, and unless Dublin Bus Management and the Minister's department re-engage in negotiations, bus workers are left with little option but to take industrial action.”
