Adams welcomes commitment for Project Eagle inquiry
Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams TD has this afternoon welcomed Cabinet approval for an inquiry into the sale of NAMA’s Northern property portfolio saying “it is a belated response from government following over a year of shocking revelations and consistent calls from Sinn Féin and others for an investigation, but I welcome the fact the government have now committed to establishing an inquiry”.
“Sinn Féin has consistently called for an inquiry into the sale of Project Eagle and at each turn the government and Fianna Fáil have bizarrely sought to frustrate and delay it.
“The recent revelations by BBC Spotlight and the Comptroller and Auditor General’s Report, which we will study in detail once published, would appear to support our concerns about insider trading and irregularities that have potentially led to the loss of millions of taxpayer’s money, and underline the need for the fullest possible inquiry to be established.
“Any inquiry that is established obviously needs to have a strong north-south dimension, and I would urge the maximum level of co-operation between both governments and statutory agencies and others, north and south, to get to the bottom of the serious allegations surrounding Project Eagle.”
