Author of United Ireland study to meet TDs and Economists
An academic behind the recent study which showed a united Ireland resulting in a massive economic dividend, is in Ireland this week to meet politicians and economists about the findings.
Professor Kurt Hubner, director of the Institute for European Studies at the University of British Columbia and co-author of the recently published and peer-reviewed Modelling Irish Unification study, will be in Ireland on Thursday 6th, Friday 7th and Saturday 8th October.
Modelling Irish Unification showed political and economic unification of Ireland potentially delivering a €35.6 billion boost in GDP for the whole island in the first eight years.
The study has added to a growing body of academic work pointing to substantial economic benefits of Irish reunification.
Mr Hubner will be joined by Sinn Féin MEP Matt Carthy at a press conference in Buswells Hotel at 11am on Thursday, 6th October.
He will make a presentation to the Oireachtas Good Friday Agreement on Thursday afternoon after meeting TDs from a cross section of parties in the Dáil.
Later that afternoon he will brief a number of Irish economists at Buswells Hotel.
At 7.30pm on Thursday evening Mr Hubner will address a public meeting at Wynn’s Hotel which will also be addressed by Sinn Féin Deputy Leader Mary Lou McDonald TD and Matt Carthy MEP.
On Friday, Professor Hubner will be in Newry for a Breakfast Briefing attended by groups and individuals representing business and community interests in the border region.
