Feet on the Beat group present petition in Leinster House – Brady
Sinn Féin TD for Wicklow/East Carlow John Brady was delighted to welcome Kilcoole-based community group Feet on the Beat to Leinster House this morning.
Teachta Brady said:
“Feet on the Beat held a briefing in Leinster House this morning to highlight the lack of Garda visibility and Garda numbers in their village and the impact this is having in their community.
“As well as highlighting their cause, the group also presented the Minister of State David Stanton, who attended on behalf of the Minister for Justice and Tánaiste Frances Fitzgerald, with a petition including 2,500 signatories.
“The group discussed their concerns and provided a number of ideas on ways to tackle the issues of anti-social and criminal behaviour in their area. Minister of State Stanton guaranteed that this information will be passed on to Minister Fitzgerald.
“Kilcoole is based in the Greystones Garda District which takes in a population of approximately 25,000 people.
“I have previously highlighted the inadequate Garda numbers in this District to Minister Fitzgerald in calling for the new Garda recruits to be stationed in this District. I will continue to put pressure on Minister Fitzgerald to provide Kilcoole with the full time community Garda that is so vitally needed.
“I would like to commend the work and the commitment shown by Feet on the Beat; they are determined to make Kilcoole a safer place for the whole community and to make it a crime free village.
“I will do everything in my power to assist Feet on the Beat and to ensure that adequate Garda numbers and Garda resources are put in place in Kilcoole.”
