Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire TD welcomes publication of Adoption Bill
Sinn Féin Children and Youth Affairs spokesperson Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire TD has today welcomed the publication to the Adoption (Information and Tracing) Bill.
Teachta Ó Laoghaire said;
"I'd like to thank the minister for publishing this vital piece of legislation which will hopefully fill many gaps for adopted people in this state.
"The bill was first published in 2015 by the then minister James Reilly and rightly in my opinion faced opposition and was heavily criticised as a substandard bill.
"The new Minister Katherine Zappone agreed to take all these observations on board and, we hope, has come back with a bill that addresses these issues.
"It is a detailed complex bill and requires careful examination, I look forward to examining carefully the small print of this bill.
"This bill deals with an emotive matter, and must go far enough to address the concerns of all advocacy groups involved, in terms of dignity and their right to their own history.
“We support these groups fully and will do our utmost to ensure the strongest possible piece of legislation passes through the house."
