Two Governments Must Play Their Role In Moving Process Forward
Speaking after the Taoiseach Bertie Ahern comments today in the Dail, Sinn Féin General Secretary Mitchel McLaughlin said that all of the parties and the two governments in particular have a collective responsibility to move the political process forward.
Mr McLaughlin said:
" Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams has taken a bold initiative aimed at unlocking the impasse in the political process. It is my belief that this initiative deserves support and does provide us with an opportunity to make progress in the immediate aftermath of the election campaign.
" For progress to be made political will is required. Sinn Féin have demonstrated time and again that we want to see this process succeed. But we cannot do this on our own. The other parties and in particular the two governments have an obligation and a responsibility to ensure that the process is moved forward.
"We all need to ensure that in spite of the cut and thrust of an election campaign that we create an environment in which progress can be made in the narrow window which exists between now and the summer months." ENDS
