Throwaway comments from a divided British government will do nothing to allay Brexit fears - Anderson
Sinn Féin MEP Martina Anderson has dismissed the throwaway jingoism of the British government in relation to Brexit, stating clarity is needed, not sound bites.
Martina Anderson MEP said;
“This week’s glib and jingoistic comments from the British Prime Minister are the latest in a series of frankly insulting comments from the British Government.
“Rather than address the huge and pressing issues of the day, the British Prime Minister decided to beat the drum with vague and unhelpful nonsense.
“This will do nothing to allay the genuine and urgent concerns of people in the north of Ireland, who face the prospect of being dragged out of the EU against their will.
“Concerns over human rights protections, cross-border travel and labour, local agricultural trade and funds, student fees, energy prices and fluctuating currencies will not be addressed by pathetic posturing.
“Sinn Féin has continuously argued for the north’s vote to be respected and for a special designated status to be created to allow the north of Ireland to remain in the EU.
"The Irish Government needs to represent and protect Irish citizens in the north and the EU to acknowledge the unique circumstances we face."
