Fianna Fáil must cease shameful support for Government– Quinlivan

13 February, 2017 - by Maurice Quinlivan TD

Limerick Sinn Féin TD Maurice Quinlivan has called on Fianna Fáil to ‘stop clinging to the coat tails of Fine Gael and bring this appalling Government to an end’. The Limerick TD was speaking after Sinn Féin published their Motion of No Confidence in the Government and Fianna Fáil indicated that they would prop up in the Government come the vote.

Deputy Quinlivan said:

“In the last Government, Labour acted as a mudguard for Fine Gael as they wreaked havoc across our health, housing and social services. Now, it is Fianna Fáil shamefully propping up Fine Gael as crises in our vital public services reach ever greater proportions.

“This latest controversy involving the scandalous attempt by the State to sully the good name of Garda Maurice McCabe involves a level of corruption and incompetence beyond what we previously thought possible. Yet, Fianna Fáil insist on supporting Edna Kenny and his Cabinet of Incompetents.

“Sinn Fein have consistently pointed out that Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael are mirror images of each other; two right-wing deeply conservative parties who are concerned with protecting the rich and powerful, and their allied vested interests in this State.

“The current behaviour of Fianna Fáil is proof positive that we were right. Fianna Fáil will continue to prop up Fine Gael, because they will be expecting Fine Gael to return the favour after the next election.

“The lesson is clear; if you want change, there's absolutely no point in voting for either of the two Conservative Parties.”
