Health Minister on board for Sinn Féin’s proposed integrated hospital waiting list system
Sinn Féin Health spokesperson Louise O’Reilly TD has welcomed a commitment from Minister Simon Harris that the National Treatment Purchase Fund are examining ways to implement her party’s proposal for an integrated hospital waiting list system.
Speaking after meeting with Minister Harris this afternoon Teachta O’Reilly said;
“I am happy to see that Minister Harris has taken this idea on board. It is fair to say that it is unusual for a government party to take an idea such as this from an opposition party and implement it so I want to give the Minister credit for recognising the value of this proposal.
“Comhliosta, as Sinn Féin calls it, is a system that allows patients to transfer to other hospitals that may have smaller waiting times. Instead of lingering on one list for one hospital patients can move to another hospital with a shorter list. It is a system that works well in Portugal.
“Minister Harris and his officials have confirmed that they will have report ready in August with a critical examination of our proposal and they outlined a considerable amount of work done to date.
“This proposal has the potential to move patients along the waiting lists more quickly so I am happy to see this progress and hope to see the system implemented in full.”
