Urgent action now required following damning Sperrin Lakeland Trust Report-Doherty
West Tyrone Sinn Féin MP Pat Doherty, has described the resignation of Sperrin Lakeland Trust Chief Executive Hugh Mills as long overdue as the local community has long since lost trust in the body over how it has failed the Tyrone County Hospital. He says that urgent action is now required to redress the situation.
"The damning Risk Assessment report by the NHS Clinical Support Team into Sperrin Lakeland Trust has and the statement of "Deep Concern" from the NIO Health Minister Shaun Woodward about the Trust's mismanagement of affairs at the Tyrone County and Erne hospitals undoubtedly forced Hugh Mills to resign before he was pushed.
"However, the local community has long since lost trust in Hugh Mills and the Sperrin Lakeland Trust over its abject failure in securing resources to maintain services at Tyrone County. In fact, the scale of mismanagement was such that the local community are convinced that the Sperrin Lakeland Trust was pro-actively working to downgrade services at The Tyrone County.
"I understand that the NHS Clinical Support Team Report not only is not only critical of Hugh Mills for mismanagement of resources but for failing to secure additional resources.
"These findings in the Report substantiate the case that I and other elected representatives have been making to the former NIO Health Minister Angela Smith, and to the Western Health and Social Services Board.
"I now welcome the fact that new NIO Health Minister Shaun Woodward has now officially acknowledged that there is a major problem and that action must now be taken to ensure that patients are put first.
"I wrote to Shaun Woodward on the 13th May seeking an urgent meeting in regards to the deteriorating situation at the Tyrone County and in light of this damning report I will be seeking urgent action to be taken redress the situation.
