McDonald to host ‘Save our Post Office’ public meeting in East Wall
Sinn Féin deputy leader Mary Lou McDonald TD has announced details of an upcoming public meeting in opposition to proposed Post Office closures by the Government. This is the second public meeting organised by the Dublin Central TD since the campaign was launched last month.
Speaking today, Deputy McDonald said,
“I’ve become increasingly concerned in recent months about the future of the Post Office network across in Ireland. There have been reports that the Government are planning for significant Post Office closures. This will impact negatively on communities and our citizens, particularly the elderly who rely on the service.
“In recent weeks, Sinn Féin has held stalls across Dublin Central, speaking to people about potential Post Office closures. Having engaged with both Postmasters and service users, it is my view that Post Office closures can be prevented by extending the range of services currently on offer. Post Offices are a focal point in many local communities and Sinn Féin will stand firmly against their closure.
“I am therefore encouraging people to attend the public meeting which will be held on Friday 19th May at 6.30pm in the Sean O’Casey Centre, East Wall which I’ll be addressing along with the General Secretary of the Postmasters Union, Ned O’Hara and Councillor Gaye Fagan.”
