DUP hypocrisy on Tory cuts – Murphy

30 June, 2017 - by Conor Murphy

Sinn Féin MLA Conor Murphy said the DUP is in no position to lecture anyone on the issue of Tory cuts to the Stormont Block Grant after giving the Tories a blank cheque on cuts to public services and Brexit.

Conor Murphy said:

“They are in no position to lecture anyone about the impact of cuts to public services when their first act in support of the Tory government was to vote for an effective cut to the wages of emergency and public service workers.

“Their second act was to vote for more Tory austerity cuts in the Queen’s Speech and to support a Tory Brexit against the wishes of the people of the north which will be disastrous for our economy.

“If they are genuinely concerned about a potential cut to the 2017-’18 they can resolve that today by agreeing to implement previous agreements.

“The DUP have a job of work to do to restore public confidence in the political institutions through putting integrity at the heart of government and ending its denial of equality and rights.”
