Labour's attempt to increase property tax in Dún Laoghaire/Rathdown defeated
Sinn Féin councillor for Sandyford Glencullen Chris Curran, has expressed his delight that the council defeated the Labour Party's attempt to increase property tax in Dún Laoghaire/Rathdown.
Councillor Curran said;
"I couldn't believe that the Labour Party put forward this motion. They threatened that council services would be cut and then wanted to allocate the extra taxes raised to fund capital projects even though services are operational costs.
“They never factored-in that new residential developments would generate additional revenue from levies.
“This is no different to their implementation of Water Charges. The Labour Party are again dictating to the electorate instead of listening to them.
“Local Property Tax makes no consideration of a person's ability to pay and Labour's attempts to raise local taxes will be resisted at all costs.”
