There must be no reduction in apartment standards – Ó Broin

6 October, 2017 - by Eoin Ó Broin TD

Sinn Féin Housing spokesperson Eoin Ó Broin TD has said that any proposed changes to 2015 statutory guidelines on apartments must not result in lower apartment standards.

Responding to Minister Murphy’s speech on the issue of city dwelling and apartments, Deputy Ó Broin said:

“Once again, we have another announcement by Minister Murphy and the drip feed of information and kite flying continues.

“Sinn Féin will consider any sensible proposal that seeks to increase the supply of homes for people across the state. We will make our position on any recommendations by the Minister’s working group on the 2015 statutory guidelines clear once we see them.

“However, it is impossible to scrutinise and support or suggest amendments to proposals that are insubstantial, lacking in detail, and that are announced on a whim every second day.

“I trust that any measures coming from the Minister’s working group on the statutory apartment guidelines will be shared with the members of the housing committee before the media.

“The Minister must now commit to developing and engaging with the rest of the Oireachtas members on some of the proposals made in his press announcements.”
