Government and An Post need to get their act together – Stanley
At an Oireachtas Communications Committee meeting this week, Sinn Féin TD and Communications spokesperson Brian Stanley requested that An Post and Unions come before the Committee to discuss the future of our Post Office Network.
The TD for Laois said:
“A Labour Court recommendation has provided for the shedding of 330 Jobs in An Post. There has been complete foot dragging on a plan for our post office network and little progress on the expansion of services and extending the range of services at the post office counter. With this there is no plan for the four mail centres.
“Alongside rumours of more than 300 post office closures, there is the possibility of the closure of one of the mail centres. Two reports now have been put before An Post management and Government on our post offices, but still this continues to be kicked down the road.
“I have now requested that the management of An Post to come before the Oireachtas Committee. We need answers on the future of the post office network. We need to shed any uncertainty and we need to put a plan in place for the future of our post offices.”
