Taoiseach’s spin unit goes on a road trip - David Cullinane TD

9 March, 2018 - by David Cullinane TD

Sinn Féin member of the Public Accounts Committee David Cullinane TD has criticised the Taoiseach’s use of public funds for his PR Roadshow to promote the Ireland 2040 Project.

Teachta Cullinane was speaking today after Finance Minister Paschal Donohue admitted on radio this morning that the planned regional roadshows were organised by the Strategic Communications Unit and will cost thousands of euros.

He said;

“With this roadshow the Taoiseach is using public money to announce measures many of which have already been published with much fanfare many times over.

“It is clear that, despite the recent pressure on the Strategic Communications Unit, the PR Show must go on, regardless of the cost to the taxpayer.

“I have already called for An Taoiseach to come before the Public Accounts Committee to account for the money spent by the Strategic Communications Unit.

“However, Taoiseach Varadkar seems determined to continue spending the public’s money in this way.

“This reflects very badly on Taoiseach Varadkar and is something I and my party will continue to pursue.”
